Carlton R. Woods, of the City of Poughkeepsie, was arrested around 5:50 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 11, after Town of Poughkeepsie Police officers observed a vehicle matching the description of a stolen vehicle which had been reported in the City of Poughkeepsie, said Capt. Michael O’Dowd.
Officers stopped the vehicle and found Woods behind the wheel. An investigation confirmed the vehicle was stolen, O'Dowd said.
According to officers, Woods was allegedly intoxicated and driving with a suspended driver’s license.
He was also found to be in possession of additional stolen property which was reported earlier in the morning in the City of Poughkeepsie, O'Dowd said.
Woods was arrested, and while in custody, caused damage to the interior of a patrol vehicle, he added.
Woods was charged with criminal possession of stolen property, criminal mischief, aggravated unlicensed operation, criminal possession of stolen property, and DWI.
The investigation also found that Woods is on parole. The New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision was contacted and they issued a warrant for his arrest.
Woods was arraigned and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail without bail.
